Do you have a preschooler that is excited about learning their alphabet but not quite ready to learn how to write them? This is the perfect pre-writing activity that will encourage learning without the laborious work of writing with a pencil.
Here is what you will need to do this alphabet stamping pre-writing activity:
I have created a Alphabet Stamping Printable that you can print out as many times as you need it. This printable works great with Melissa & Doug set that I have gotten used (Melissa & Doug Alphabet Stamp Set), but would also work with their newer set, Melissa & Doug Deluxe Alphabet Stamp Set.
Here is how I worked this with my 3 year old…
Pick a letter
I let him pick which ever stamp he wanted to pick.
Identify the letter
I would see if he knew the letter. If he didn’t, I would tell him what it was, including the upper or lower case.
Identify the color
I would let him tell me the color of the letter on the stamp and then use the stamp ink that matches the stamp.
Stamp the printout
He would then match the stamp with the letter on the printout and stamp it underneath it.
I would let him tell me when we were done with the activity. You may want to only pull out the first line of letters for one lesson and then work through the lines as the preschooler is willing and able.
