This year, I had a helper writing the newsletter! Our 10 year old, Mathias was my ‘reporter' for this post. He had a home school assignment to ask this question to each of our family members, including himself: “What are you most thankful for in 2012?” Once he finished his interviews, he came to me with his rough draft. Together, we sat down and typed our Christmas Newsletter. I sure hope you like it!
The Freeman Family Christmas Newsletter for 2012
Merry Christmas to our family and friends! It is hard to believe that 2012 is already nearing its end. We are excited about celebrating Jesus! December finds us full of activities to bring more of Jesus into our lives, through Advent studies and learning about all the names of Jesus. We even started a new tradition when we go looking for Christmas lights! In this letter, we hope to share the testimonies of the goodness of God in our family’s lives and to usher the new year in with hearts full of thanksgiving!
In reflection of His goodness, Harold shared that he is blessed with 20 years of marriage and a loving family. He also is happy for the raise he received this year and God's provision to our family! What a joy he had when he got to watch the Steelers, his favorite football team, practice at a Training Camp outside of Pittsburg, PA. He also was thankful for the protection on Dollie and Cassondra… more on that in a moment.
In 2012, Dollie has experienced a roller-coaster of events, starting with her mom suffering from a heart attack and emergency surgery for a stint to be put in. She praises the Lord for His healing and the extra time He has allowed her mom on this side of eternity. She has learned so much through ‘letting go and letting God’ work in the hurts and pains of relationships and allowing Him to bring healing to both the emotional and physical strains that the stresses of 2011 and those within 2012 has left her to work through this year.
Now back to Harold's thankfulness… At the end of September, Dollie and Cassondra were in a car accident, while leaving Cincinnati, Ohio, when a young man ran a red light. Both cars were totaled and only Dollie suffered minor injuries, although the impact was on Cassondra’s side of the car. Praise the Lord for that protection and safely getting them home in way of a rental car.
In June, Cassondra graduated from home schooling. She was thrilled that both sets of Grandparents and several aunts and cousins, along with many family friends were present for this special day and the graduation party that followed. In August, she started her journey of a blogger, at Beyond the Cover, putting her God-given talent of writing and love of books together. She has been faithfully learning all she can about design, coding and graphics, as she diligently works to bring glory to her Savior and learn how to make money from home, until her dream of being a wife and homeschooling mother comes to pass.
This year has been a big year for Micah as well. Not only did he pass his permit test and begin to learn to drive, but he announced that his life ambition was to become a Professional golf player. Much discussion has gone on between Harold and I realizing that this goal was one that we were going to encourage and do our part into seeing him accomplish it. In September, Micah started his first tour of competition, which lasted for seven weeks. What a joy it was for our family to watch him play and better his skill. We look forward to seeing how God will use him as a light to those in the golf world and those who follow the sport. We have no doubt that he will be tried by Satan, as we all are, but we are using the last years together, to build him in character and knowledge of the Lord for the world to see and know He is God and that Micah serves Him joyfully!
Surprisingly, Mathias thought school was going to be horrible, but it has been a great year. Its been great because of learning about good people, especially George Washington, Math has become easier and he likes nature because he loves animals. On his birthday, we went camping at Lake Gastons, in North Carolina. The first few days, he fished but didn’t catch anything, but one evening, he threw his line out for about a minute and then something big caught it. It was about an eight-inch catfish. He enjoyed the pontoon that we rented for a day and getting a good view of an osprey. Then in July, we went to the Glory Barn which is in Pennsylvania, to see his cousins and family and to fish!
What a big year it has been for Manoah! It seems like he gets bigger and bigger with each passing day, but nothing says your bigger than getting fully potty trained, sleeping in a big boy bed and giving up your pacifier. Yep, he did it all and in just three months times! Then to top all of that, he seems to be learning new words all the time! Larger and larger vocabulary. He loves to learn and already knows 13 of the 26 alphabets by sight. He can spell his name when someone writes it for him and is currently learning his last name, too! He has learned to dress himself and has just decided that he is going to pick out his own clothes but doesn’t care if his socks are two different colors. He takes care of his dirty clothes, tries to make his bed and even can pick up his own toys, maybe not every time. He is all boy, yes, sir’ee! Trains, truck, cars, planes, boats, motorcycles, football, golf and animals are all of his favorite things… and his family!
Our faithful dog of 12 years, Shadow is still doing great! He is the best dog in the whole world… in our opinion. He had a rough patch this spring when we took him into the vet to get his eye checked from a scratch. The meds seem to work the first few days, but then both eyes got really bad. He seemed to be blind and losing his hearing. We took him back in, very concerned that his health was not going to get better. The vet changed the meds and praise the Lord, Shadow recovered and has been healthy ever since! Lizzy, Micah’s leopard gecko, is the silent member of the family and is 9 year olds and still doing great!
We pray that in 2013, the Lord will bless you, keep you and cause his face to shine on you!
